What is special about the people’s struggle that is currently unfolding in Sri Lanka is that more than 80% of the people have come together for a common goal. As we always write, the shape, color, length and breadth of the struggle are different but it is clear that the security forces have not been able to identify anything.
Some intelligent security officers may use their intelligence to come up with certain ideas. It is not through experience but through their knowledge and intellect. If there is an era in recent history where thousands of people have risen up against such a unification as well as the government, it is necessary to go into world history to learn such things. 90% of the political authorities also do not understand this properly and if it is identified then the police officers should not be helpless but should take some quick decision to change this situation or listen to the demands of the people.
Due to this people’s struggle, the police officers are carrying out their duties under intense pressure. This situation is not a big problem for the officers who are on duty near the police station. They pay for three meals a day with their wages. If you used to spend ten thousand rupees on food for the whole month, now you have to spend twenty thousand rupees. Expenditure on school children has now doubled. If in the past one child spent five thousand a month, now it is ten thousand. Many police officers have also taken out various loans. If the monthly fuel cost for his motorcycle was Rs. 50,000, now it has gone beyond Rs. 10,000.
Meanwhile, the barracks of the police officers were filled. There are no places to sleep during off time. There is no place to wash clothes and hang them. The reason is that their vacation has been canceled. There are no large barracks or billets in police stations as there are in army camps. Police stations do not need that either. They used to be on an 8-hour shift and somehow managed to solve the problems in their homes and now they are facing some problems both financially and as a family corporation.
We should pay special attention to the fact that the police are stuck like “Arecanuts Caught in a Trap” unable to perform their duties properly. Whatever way we look at the police, we must also understand that they are politically stuck. “The Sri Lanka Police and the people are two links in the same chain.” Anti-social groups behind the real struggle also took this opportunity to take revenge on the police. Crime is on the rise in the society as some police are unable to perform their normal duties due to the use of police protection for the struggle. It is certain that the future will be even greater and the social problems that cannot be solved will increase and the country will fall even lower than Ethiopia.
Therefore, all political powers must identify the true depth of the struggle as soon as possible and build the people’s economy quickly, creating political stability. Without it, the continued seizures could lead to the persecution of the security forces and the people, leading to unforeseen heinous crimes.
