According to former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, who was the Minister of Housing in 2011, an attempt was made to obtain houses from a person named Duminda Lanka Liyanage on his promotion. There were reports of billions of rupees being embezzled from 1400 Sri Lankans, including country heroes. That was during a discussion with Chamuditha Samarawickrema on an internet channel.
It was reported that money had been spent to purchase these houses on the instructions of Wimal Weerawansa and that no police investigation was being carried out on the person concerned and that the fraudster was not even enforcing court orders.
