A fire broke out in a building material shop at Mirihana Athulkotte junction early today (11).
According to the report, a 63-year-old Lakshman Sarath Kumar, who was staying in the store, died in the fire.
The police said that the person in question was sleeping on the welding of the shop and he died on the spot when the fire broke out.
The deceased was a person who earned his living by working as a hired worker in the shops of the same area and the owner of the shop allowed him to stay in the shop as this person was in a sick condition.
However, the police said that the cause of the fire has not yet been revealed and the damage to the store has not been estimated yet.
However, it is reported that the store has been completely destroyed due to the fire.
The fire department of the Kotte Municipal Council arrived and extinguished the fire as soon as it broke out, and the officials of the Electricity Board also acted immediately and took steps to switch off the electricity.
