International media reported that at least 15 people have been killed so far in clashes between supporters of a powerful Shiite cleric and Iraqi security forces.
These conflicts have taken place in the capital city of Baghdad.
Protesters supporting Muqtada al-Sadar stormed the country’s presidential palace, injuring a large number of people, it is reported.
These conflicts started with Muqtada al-Sadar’s announcement that he was retiring from politics.
The Prime Minister of the caretaker government has issued a statement asking the people to be patient with the clashes in several other cities.
Also, a state of emergency has been announced in the country, and it is said that most of the clashes took place in the “Green Zone” region of Baghdad, where government offices, buildings and foreign embassies are installed.
