The Ceylon Electricity Board states that the Kelanitissa Sojitz Power Plant has been shut down due to maintenance work.
Therefore, the CEB states that 160 megawatts will be lost to the national grid.
The Public Utilities Commission stated that the power plant could not be shut down in the face of the current power crisis.
However, it is reported that a group of members including the chairman of the commission will visit the power plant today (26) to inquire into the matter.
The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has recommended that the power supply to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) power plants should not be cut off until tomorrow (27) and that a decision will be taken after tomorrow.
