Corruption and fraud in state institutions in Sri Lanka are being exposed day by day and it is becoming impossible to find a non-corrupt institution. While large-scale fraud and corruption are being uncovered by the COPE, it is possible to speculate that there may be thousands of undisclosed scams and corruption.
The fraudulent purchase of drugs by the Ministry of Health when people did not have access to medicines, a computer system that is said to be obsolete among billions of expired drugs, and the amount of nearly Rs. 500 million that was swindled out of it, we reported with the purchase.
A computer system is not obsolete but needs to be updated daily. Although the new Secretary of the Ministry of Health does not appear to have learned about it, he has failed to respond to the allegations of fraud and corruption. But e Weiss made it quite right.
