At the Cabinet meeting held yesterday (13) a number of proposals were made to initiate discussions with the International Monetary Fund to find a solution to the current economic crisis in the country.
The Cabinet meeting was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (13).
Several ministers have commented on borrowing from the International Monetary Fund, while others have said they would have to agree to the terms and conditions if they sought assistance from the International Monetary Fund.
Therefore, some people have stated that it is better to take loans from friendly countries instead of going to the International Monetary Fund and take loans from the International Monetary Fund or not? It is reported that no definite agreement has been reached so far.
Referring to the current fuel crisis, the Minister in charge of the subject said that it would cost around US $ 420 million to import fuel and that there would be many problems in fuel imports in the coming months.
However, the agreement regarding the Yugadanavi power plant was not submitted to the Cabinet yesterday and it is reported that it will be presented to the next Cabinet meeting.
