A stock of cigarettes illegally manufactured in a foreign country has been illegally imported into the country without paying customs duties and has been arrested by the STF officers.
The stock of cigarettes was found during a raid carried out yesterday (18) at the Rabina Company land on Kalyani Road, Wattala in the Wattala Police Division.
It is reported that a stock of cash and a van worth over Rs. 290,000 obtained from the sale of cigarettes were also seized during the raid.
The consignment of cigarettes was transported by two persons aged 44 and 46 from Beruwala and it is reported that the value of the consignment of cigarettes seized was over Rs. 500,000.
Wattala Police are conducting further investigations.
