Former Minister Johnston Fernando, who has been named as an accused in the attack on the Galle Face protest, has filed a writ petition seeking an injunction restraining his arrest.
However, there is a heated debate in the society as to whether his police protection has been removed. There is a lot of talk about this on social media as well.
Various media outlets had reported that two police teams had been deployed to arrest him. But he was still with police protection when the arrest warrant was issued and there was no room for escape.
He could have been arrested if a petition had been filed but no temporary warrant had been issued for his arrest.
However, due to the aggression of the political powers, the Sri Lanka Police continues to be humiliated and insulted and as a result has been unable to maintain law and order in Sri Lanka.
The political authority in Sri Lanka continues to beat the common man to the ground and as a result the people are once again resorting to massive acts of violence.
