The National Fertilizer Secretariat states that although permission has been granted to import chemical fertilizers, the relevant companies have not yet applied for it.
On November 30, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa issued a special gazette notification revoking the ban on the import of chemical fertilizers.
It is reported that although the fertilizer companies have been given permission to import chemical fertilizers, they have not yet submitted their requests.
The National Fertilizer Secretariat states that the companies will make the relevant requests after re-opening the letters of credit for the importation of fertilizer, after which the requests will be considered and they will be allowed to import the fertilizer and some restrictions will be considered there.
