From today (09) instructions have been given to fly the national flag at half-mast in all government institutions for the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs issued a statement and informed that this was informed by President Ranil Wickramasinghe to express his condolences on the death of Queen Elizabeth.
Queen Elizabeth II served as the last Queen of Sri Lanka from 1952 to 1972.
In an official announcement last night (08), Buckingham Palace stated that Queen Elizabeth II, who held the British crown for the longest time, has passed away.
Foreign media reported that after her death, members of her family arrived at Balmoral Palace, including grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry.
Foreign media also reports that a large crowd has gathered in front of Buckingham Palace after her death.
However, with the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her eldest son Prince Charles is set to become the new king and head of state of 14 British and Commonwealth states.
