“This is a big step for Switzerland,” Ignazio Cassis told a news conference after days of hesitation over whether the Alpine should join forces with Western powers to punish Moscow economically for its attack on Ukraine.
Finance Minister Ueli Maurer told reporters that parts of Brussels’ blacklist, including President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, had been “frozen with immediate effect.”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) says its executive board has recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials be banned from participating in the Games.
The board said in a statement that they should refrain from doing so if there is insufficient time to notify or other “organizational or legal reasons” prove that the two countries’ athletes cannot compete.
