The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Canada, Germany, Malawi, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, the United Kingdom and the United States have issued a joint statement calling for the perpetrators of the violence to be brought to justice and for civilian organizations not to be influenced.

The UNHRC called on Sri Lanka to co-operate with the High Commissioner and the High Commission, and said it was ready to assist Sri Lanka in implementing UNHRC Resolution 46/1.
The announcement was made by its ambassador, Rita French, who is due to present a detailed report on the incident on May 9 to the Geneva Human Rights Council next September.
