Three suspects arrested with 776 kg of turmeric
The Kalpitiya Police have arrested two suspects in two raids who were transporting 260 kilos of turmeric in a three-wheeler which was being smuggled into the country without paying customs duties to the government.
Another 516 kilos of turmeric was seized by the Kalpitiya Police on a tip off received by the Army Intelligence on the 30th.
The consignment of turmeric was found hidden in a jungle in the Thetawadiya lagoon in Kalpitiya and was being transported.
A group of officers including Inspector Udayakumara have conducted raids under the direction of Kalpitiya Police OIC Inspector Nishantha Kumara. It is reported that court proceedings are to be held for this.
