Special Task Force officers arrested two persons with a T56 automatic firearm and a cache of illegal drugs.
This raid was carried out in the Ambilipitiya-Vallunumada area on the 6th of last year according to the intelligence information received by the officers of the Udawalawa and Ambalantota camps.
The two suspects in question were arrested by an immediate roadblock while traveling to Vallunumada area on the Panamura main road.
During the arrest of the concerned suspects, a T56 type automatic firearm, an ammunition bag filled with 08 live bullets, 10 grams of heroin and two vehicle number plates were also found in their possession.
The arrested suspects are two persons aged 32 and 38, residing in Embilipitiya area and Atakalampanna, Pinnagala area.
Ambilipitiya Police stated that it is doubtful whether the firearm in question was given on hire basis for the shootings carried out in Middeniya area in the past and investigations are being carried out in this regard.
