The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) says a landslide is active in the lower Kadugannawa area on the Colombo-Kandy road, near the railway line in the upper part of the landslide prone area.
Officials from the National Building Research Organization are currently inspecting the site and the road has been closed due to landslides.
Further investigations have revealed that the landslide area near the Kandyan railway line above the high risk area is becoming active.
Also, RMS Bandara, Technical Director, National Building Research Organization, said that soil and rock layers that had been deposited above the main road for some time were being pushed down and stones were being deposited in the upper areas to reduce this risk. What needs to be done is to devise a system to drain the water.
