An incident has been reported in which a person has been hospitalized for 6 days after being assaulted in the Wellawaya area about 6 days ago and so far no statement has been recorded from the injured person regarding the incident.
The incident was reported to us by Arya Dileep, a resident of Divulgasmulla, Wellawaya, who contacted us at 070-1887457 yesterday (25) afternoon.
When we contacted the Wellawaya OIC over the phone based on information received from him, the OIC stated that no such incident had been reported from his police station.
As we continued to investigate, it was revealed that the incident took place in the Wellawaya Police Division but that the victim was a resident of the Koslanda Police Division.
When we contacted the Wellawaya OIC again and inquired about the complaint number CIB (III) 2 / 263, the OIC stated that his duty at the police station had been carried out in connection with the incident and that it was the responsibility of the hospital police to record the statement from the injured person. He also informed that.
But so far the hospital police have not even recorded a statement from the injured person, and in such a case it is the responsibility of all of them to record statements from him and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The relatives of the person who has been hospitalized for 6 days are in a state of great distress and distress but the eyes of the law are still not open for them.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Sirigala Hospital in Moneragala and will be transferred to the Badulla General Hospital today (26).
However, what to do with the legal action that will be taken if this person dies in a situation where the hospital police have not yet taken the necessary steps in this regard?
In such an event, the public’s trust in the messengers of law as well as their own security in the country will be shattered and it will be a very sad situation for a country.
