Roshan Ranasinghe, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs recently stated that the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has agreed to provide the necessary financial strength to empower the youth of Sri Lanka. That was after a meeting with the Prime Minister and a group of officials from the Ministry of Sports at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Minister pointed out the importance of identifying and guiding the youth of the country as a driving force in an environment where the economic crisis in the country is creating political, social and cultural problems.
The Minister told the Prime Minister that the National Youth Services Council will take steps to create and employ skilled workers in the foreign employment market based on the youth corps and in the future to create entrepreneurs to create youth-oriented inquiries in the local and foreign markets.
The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Irrigation, hopes to launch the ‘Youth Cultivation War’ to create young farmers, open up markets for them and provide them with the necessary infrastructure, he said.
The Minister also stated that one of his other objectives is to provide the youth with the business opportunities they need in the IT and Internet related market.
The Minister also briefed the Prime Minister on the future plans of the Youth Parliament and the Youth Club Federation.
Note by Sri Ravana
It is very important to focus on strengthening the future of the youth in the above manner or not, but it is also a temporary task. The youth should be prepared to keep up to date with the latest developments in the country. The Minister has mentioned short term plans, of which only the Youth Parliament can be seen as a long term plan. But it also only creates a section of leaders.
But in order to update the future of a country, all the youth must be taken into consideration. All youth should contribute to the future of the country, not just part of it. It cannot be done in any other way than the accepted method.
The focus should be on sustainable programs for the youth as well as a program to end the abuses and injustices perpetrated on the youth forever. Scholars should be consulted on youth development in Sri Lanka. An internet program with Chamuditha Samarawickrema recently revealed that there is no youth development in Sri Lanka.
