It is reported that the Central Provincial Animal Production and Health Department stated that the disease with skin nodules spreading among cattle has affected the milk production in the Central Province and this cattle disease is reported in several areas of the Central Province.
Also, its director Dr. R. M. K. P. Rajanayake has stated that the authorities should act quickly to control this situation and refrain from eating beef until this disease is brought under control.
Mrs. Rajanayake, who gave further comments in this regard,
“This cow lump disease has had a small effect on milk production in the Central Province. We have seen cows with this cow lump disease in Ragala and Kothmale divisions of Nuwara Eliya district, Harispatttu, Udunuwara, Pujapitiya divisions of Kandy district and Dambulla, Wilgamuwa and Galewala divisions in Matale. Especially Dambulla. And in Galewala, the most affected cattle are found. In other provinces, it is less common. Around 500 animals were infected in Dambulla and Galewala. In other provinces, 50 to 30 cattle are infected. This disease is among cattle. We advise to prevent the spread. For that purpose, the bringing of animals from outside or inside the Central Province has been completely stopped these days.”
