It is reported that the Sri Lankan office of the organization has requested to be careful of fraudsters who use the name and logo of the United Nations to ask for money and personal information.
They say fraudulent and misleading information using their organization’s name and logo is being circulated again via social media, text messaging services, websites, emails and phone calls.
The UN office further advises to be aware of situations where money and, in many cases, personal information is obtained using its name and logo.
