The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has handed over to the Speaker a draft resolution proposing a new amendment to the Constitution, including the abolition of the executive presidency.
The Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa handed over the bill to the General Secretary of the party Ranjith Maddumabandara at the office of the Leader of the Opposition this morning.
The draft was handed over to the Speaker by the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance Ranjith Madduma Bandara this morning. The bill contains a number of democratic features, including the abolition of the executive presidency, the amendment to the three-party system of checks and balances, the repeal of the 20th Amendment, the establishment of independent commissions and the establishment of a National Security Council.
