The Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court recently issued an order to the Victims and Witnesses Protection Division headed by the IGP to provide immediate security to Chamuditha Samarawickrema who was attacked by thugs recently.
The order was issued after a team of lawyers, including President’s Counsel Kuvera de Zoysa, briefed the Kesbewa Magistrate on the immediate protection of his life under the Victims and Witnesses Protection Act.

Chamuditha Samarawickrema, a victim of this heinous attack that has rocked the whole of Sri Lanka, is thus protected by the intervention of the judiciary under the existing law of Sri Lanka and in demonstrating the independence of the judiciary, the right to freedom of expression and the right to freedom of expression, and the right to freedom of information. The order can also be seen as a guarantee of the safety of all journalists and law abiding citizens. Stay tuned for more on this.
