It is reported that it has been revealed in the parliament that the majority of the MPs who were given weapons in the period from 1980 to 1990 have not returned the weapons till now, and more than 100 of the 150 MPs who were given weapons have failed to return the weapons.
Responding to an oral question asked by Member of Parliament Mr. Dallas Alahapperuma in this regard, State Defense Minister Mr. Pramitha Bandara Thennakoon has stated that some of the members who have not returned the weapons are currently ill.
Also, while replying to a question raised by Member of Parliament Alahapperuma whether an automatic weapon has been given to any Member of Parliament since 1989, the Minister of State has further stated that such weapons have never been issued to any Member of Parliament.
