It is reported that the prison officer who was in charge of the suspect has been suspended in relation to an incident where a warrant officer who was being brought from Karapitiya Teaching Hospital to Galle Prison escaped from prison officials.
The suspect in question was admitted to the 58th ward of Karapitiya Hospital due to a sudden illness while he was in custody. Later, while he was being taken from the Karapitiya Hospital to the prison yesterday (18) afternoon, he escaped from the prison officials.
The suspect is a 31-year-old resident of Galle area, and he had 9 warrants and was remanded for the offenses of breaking into 5 houses and stealing property.
He was arrested by the Akmeemana Police on the 16th and remanded until the 23rd when he suddenly fell ill and was taken to the hospital.
