It is reported that Environment Minister Mr. Ahmed has issued a gazette notice banning the production and sale of 09 single-use plastic items in the country with effect from October 1st.
According to the gazette announcement, single-use drinking straws, plastic plates, cups, spoons, forks and knives, plastic garlands and plastic hoppers have been banned with effect from October 1st.
They are also prohibited from being produced, imported for local use, sold, offered for free or displayed in the country and the Central Environment Authority has stated that the law will be implemented against the violators of those orders according to the provisions of the National Environmental Act.
