It is reported that Dr. Susil Premjayant said that he believes that the university lecturers will also come in as soon as possible to check the answer sheets.
Attending a news conference held in Colombo, he further stated that the stipends for the Uttara Patra examination for the professors have been increased by more than 90%.
The minister who further commented on this,
“Discuss with the teachers unions and increase their allowances 2 months ago. We have increased the composite allowance by Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,900 for those over 80 km. Allowances for university lecturers and professors were increased by more than 90% compared to the number they received in the examination of answer sheets. For example, the person who received Rs 50,000 will get Rs 10,5000. The Treasury has agreed to increase the stipends for teachers’ answer sheets and the stipends of university teachers for more than 400 million. Intelligence agencies report that 18-20 year old youths are getting very upset due to delay in examination of answer sheets. I request very earnestly that the teachers’ unions have mostly agreed and committed themselves to this matter. The examination department has done the work. I think today or tomorrow the university professors will be involved in this.”
