It is reported that an attack has taken place on a private bus that was running from Monaragala to Matara on the Wellawaya-Tanamalwila main road in Ataliwewa area.
According to reports, the bus was stopped in Ataliwewa area and a group of people carrying sticks entered the bus and attacked the driver and conductor of the bus and the attacks were also directed at a group of passengers on the bus.
The assault took place due to an argument during the bus ride and the driver of the bus has also lodged a complaint with the Kudoya Police regarding the incident.
Yesterday (28th) Monaragala-Matara private buses were stopped from running in protest against this incident and from this morning (29th) Matara-Monaragala buses were resumed.
Kudo Oya Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
