It is reported that doctors, nurses, patients and local residents of the cancer unit of the hospital held a protest today (19) saying that the oncologist of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital who is in remand has been treated unfairly.
They say that the law should also apply to the junior staff of the hospital who assaulted the doctor.
Although 72 health professional associations stated that the symbolic strike which was implemented on the 16th will not be carried out in specialized hospitals such as children’s and cancer hospitals, the junior staff of the Cancer Department of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital participated in it.
The day after the strike, the workers had reported back to work and Dr. Krishantha Perera, the head of the Cancer Department of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, has alleged that the work of the cancer unit was hampered by the strike.
There, a heated situation arose between Mr. A and the junior staff who had reported to work that day.
After this incident, Dr. Krishantha Perera was arrested and remanded until the 22nd.
Meanwhile, the people who joined today’s protest have pointed out that the doctor was attacked during the unrest and the law should be implemented in that regard.
