It is reported that a person of Sri Lankan origin has been elected as the new president of Singapore.
It is stated that Dharman Shanmugaratnam, who was elected to the presidency, served as the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Education and Human Resource Management from 2011 to 2019 and as the Committee Chairman of the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund.
The mother of 66-year-old Dharman Shanmugaratnam, a former economist, is a resident of Jaffna-Uralu area.
The foreign media has further mentioned that he has won 70.4 percent of the votes, beating two candidates who contested with him.
