It is reported that a stock of explosives, including mortar shells used for artillery, were found in an old toilet pit in a garden in Alampil area, Mullaitivu.
When the owner of the land was preparing to remove a toilet pit that had not been used for a long time, he saw that there was a stock of explosives in it and then the security forces were informed about it. Then the Mullaitivu police inspected the relevant place and under the orders of the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court, the Kilinochchi Police Special Task Force bomb disposal unit authorities recovered the stock of explosives from the relevant toilet pit.
There were 49 81mm type mortar bullets, 60mm type mortar bullet, 13 81mm type para bullets, 2000 T.56 type bullets, 60mm type para bullet, M. produced in a foreign country. 56 hand grenades of type 75, para mortars and R.P.G. It is said that 6 types of bullets have been found.
A part of the explosives found had decayed and the LTT who were fleeing during the wartime attacks by the security forces. The police suspect that these explosives may have been left in the toilet pit to be reused by the terrorists.
It is also reported that Mullaitivu was supposed to be deactivated under the orders of the Magistrate’s Court.
