It is reported that a person who went fishing with five friends in Kandaketiya, Pathahagala, Umaoy was attacked by an elephant and the rest of the group escaped by climbing trees.
An unmarried person named Nandasiri Gunasekara, resident of Kandaketiya, Track 2/5, has lost his life.
The deceased along with five other friends went to Kandaketiya, Pathahagala, Umaoa to catch fish on the last 23rd night and while they were in the Pathahagala Reserve, they were chased by an elephant that was following them last night (24th). Then they ran to escape from the wild elephant and climbed the trees in the reserve. At that time, when he was going to climb a tree to escape from the killer elephant, the wild elephant grabbed him by the trunk and threw him to the ground.
Later, the wild elephant went to the forest and the people who were climbing the trees came down and picked up the injured man and took him to Kandaketiya Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the time he was admitted, the police said.
