It is reported that a heated situation had broken out in front of the Narammala Police after the incident in which a driver was shot dead by the police in the Dampalassa area of Narammala.
It is reported that a group of local residents, including the relatives of the deceased, gathered in front of the Narammala Police last night (18) to protest against the incident and behaved violently.
The gathered people broke down the gates and damaged the property of the police.
Accordingly, steps were taken to deploy a team of police special task force officers to control the situation.
Yesterday afternoon while a group of Narammala police officers were conducting an operation, a small lorry was ordered to stop near Narammala city and the vehicle was driven in defiance of the order, the police said.
There, a sub-inspector and a constable chased the lorry on a motorcycle, stopped it and checked it near Dampalassa junction.
At that time, the sub-inspector’s firearm went off and the driver of the lorry was shot.
Police have stated that the driver of the lorry died on the spot due to gunshot wounds.
A 40-year-old resident of Alawita area has died due to gunshot wounds and the Narammala police have arrested the sub-inspector and the police constable involved in the incident.
