It is reported that Mr. Shanta Bandara, Minister of State for Mass Media, said while joining a press conference held at the Presidential Media Center titled “Toward a stable country – everyone on one path” that the new act for the modernization of the postal department will be presented to the parliament before the end of this year.
The Minister has mentioned that the existing Postal Ordinance Act is hindering the innovation of the mail, so steps were taken to amend it immediately and so far about 80% of it has been completed.
The minister who commented further,
“We hope that the new Postal Act will be presented and passed this year and the future work will be carried out. One of the loss-making institutions today is the Department of Posts. By the 31st of last year, the income was 7,000 million. The expenditure was 14,000 million. The loss is to cover the loss of 7000 million. We were instructed to implement the necessary program for this. Then we hope to reduce the loss to 4,000 million by this year and balance the profit and loss by December 2024.”
