The shooter involved in the recent shooting in Minuwangoda area has died in Embilipitiya area after being shot by STF.

Based on the information received by the STF team, a special task force team came from Colombo to Embilipitiya to arrest him. He is hiding in the house of the shooter’s brother. The brother, the brother’s wife and children were sleeping in another room of the house and this suspect was sleeping in another room of the house, and while the Special Task Force officers were preparing to arrest him, the suspect tried to shoot the STF officers with a pistol in his hand. Sources also state that he was shot and killed by task force officers.

However, independent evidence does not reveal whether the person had a pistol in his hand or whether he tried to shoot. Also, it is reported that a Special Task Force officer was injured and is being treated in Embilipitiya Hospital.

Killing these criminals does not reduce the population of criminals in the society. According to the law, a criminal becomes a criminal only after proper evidence is examined. Also, we have continuously pointed out that by killing like this without conducting a proper examination of the evidence, only important institutions like the Special Task Force will be further destroyed. Therefore, what should be done is to speed up the judicial process against the persons suspected to be such criminals and take action against them according to the law of the state itself. The maximum legal action is to be taken. In some of the shootings carried out by the Special Task Force, there have been cases where the Special Task Force was also involved. Therefore, it should not be forgotten that the protection of this important institution should be done by the officials of the same institution. Also, the entire country should work to prevent the emergence of criminals, but it is a pity that this is not the case.

Minister Acharya Bandula Gunawardena was questioned at the press conference held at the Government Information Department recently, whether efforts have been made to build a good society by preventing the emergence of criminals. He said there that “the attention or activities required to build a seven society have not been paid attention to.” Accordingly, in the coming future, not only the Special Task Force but also the lives of all those involved in the operations of the security forces are at risk and a society has been created which is a challenge for them, so we would like to emphasize again and again that great bloodshed may take place.
