It is reported that it has been decided to remove the movement restrictions imposed in Vavniya prison due to an epidemic situation.
As an immediate precautionary measure to reduce the spread of the disease due to one inmate and a prison officer being infected with measles in the prison, the prison department had taken measures to impose movement restrictions within the premises and the movement restrictions imposed for two weeks from the 25th of last month will be lifted today (07). The Vavnia Regional Epidemiological Unit has confirmed that there is a suitable condition in the prison as it is scheduled to end on the date.
Accordingly, the Prisons Department has further stated that the Regional Epidemiological Unit has informed the Vavnia Prison officials to carry out their daily activities as usual from tomorrow (08).
