It is reported that a sub-inspector working in the environment department of the Maradana Police was arrested yesterday (20) by the officers of the Bribery and Corruption Investigation Commission in Kuliapitiya area.
The suspected sub-inspector, while a police sergeant, had worked in the traffic section of the Giriulla police station.
It is said that the aggrieved party has filed a case in the Kuliyapitiya District Court to get compensation in a car accident that is said to have happened at that time.
The suspect had named this police officer as a witness in the relevant case and it is said that he had demanded a bribe of 10,000 rupees to give evidence in favor of the plaintiff.
The suspect sub-inspector was arrested while receiving the bribe and he is going to be produced before the Kuliapitiya Magistrate’s Court.
