It is reported that many liquor manufacturing companies have raised strong objections to the government and the Minister of State for Finance regarding the increase in liquor tax license fees.
The owners of the alcohol manufacturing establishments point out that it is a problem to run the establishments by increasing the license fees when the production of alcohol has decreased.
Minister of State for Finance Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said that he will discuss the matter with the President as soon as he arrives in the island.
The annual excise license fees have been increased with effect from the 12th of January.
Thus the distillery license fee will be two crore fifty lakh rupees.
The fee used to be ten lakhs earlier.
