The General Manager of Railways has taken steps to cancel the leave of all staff of the Sri Lanka Railways with immediate effect from today (14).
It is mentioned in the announcement that in order to maintain the train service continuously and efficiently, the General Manager of Railways W. it . D. S. Gunasinghe has informed the heads of all departments.
This decision has been taken by the Railways General Manager at a time when the Sri Lanka Railway Department’s Locomotive Railway Engineers Union is going on a 24-hour strike from midday today (14).
Also, according to the Government’s Extraordinary Gazette Notice dated February 27, 2321 / 07, the Sri Lanka Railway Service was declared an essential service by the President and it has been declared an essential public service in terms of Section 2 of the Essential Public Service Act No. 61 of 1979.
