President Ranil Wickremesinghe has approved the cabinet to hold a series of ceremonies in recognition of the contribution of the upland Tamil people to the Sri Lankan economy over the past two hundred years.
The Cabinet has approved a request made by the President to hold this series of programs in February 2023 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the first group of the Tamil community in Kandura to Sri Lanka.
It is special that the Ministry of Industry and other relevant government agencies have jointly planned to organize the event with the aim of appreciating the services of the upland Tamils who migrated to this country from India 200 years ago and also to improve their living standards.
