THE COST OF THE INDEPENDENCE CEREMONY IS OUT. CORRUPT TRANSACTIONS?

On Sunday Mawbima points out that the “Power Against Bribery, Corruption and Waste” organization says that more than 3,700 lakh rupees have been spent on the 75th Independence Day.

Its chairman Jamuni Kamanta Thushara has said that this becomes clear when examining the statistics provided by the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government under the Freedom of Information Act.

According to an inquiry made by several civil organizations under the Freedom of Information Act from the Ministry of Public Administration, he informed that 162.8 million rupees will be spent recently (February 2).

He has said that the officials tried to hide the information when they asked for details regarding the expenses of the independence ceremony and thus there may be hidden corrupt transactions in these expenses.

Jamuni Kamanta Thushara has said that the officials of the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs harassed representatives of civil organizations including him without giving information about expenses and even had to be threatened by some officials.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs will receive 40 million rupees, the Ministry of Education will receive 5.8 million rupees, the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government will receive 55 million rupees, the Department of Government Factories will receive 39 million rupees, and the National He has also indicated that the Water Supply and Drainage Board has estimated a cost of 162.8 million rupees with 2 million rupees and the Ceylon Electricity Board 21 million rupees.

Apart from this, 1,849,250 rupees have been estimated for the entertainment expenses for the support staff including the organization related to all the guests, and 503,239 rupees for the various tasks performed by the army in relation to the Independence Day commemoration parade.

330,000 rupees for Sri Lanka Air Force, 330,000 rupees for the restoration work of the Independence Square for the 75th Independence Day Celebration Cultural Concert, 420,000 rupees for the restoration of the replicas to be preserved in the premises of the Independence House, duties of the Independence Day Celebration The rough estimate includes 100,000 rupees for transportation and fuel expenses related to all the durations, and 100,000 rupees for mailing invitations and other related duties.
