According to a complaint made by a person in Mankulam area, a police sergeant and a police constable attached to the Mallavi police station were arrested yesterday (30) by the officials of the Bribery or Corruption Allegations Investigation Commission in connection with an allegation of receiving a bribe of 15,000 rupees.
The two officials demanded a bribe of 25,000 rupees for not taking legal action regarding a traffic mistake, of which an amount of 12,500 rupees was first given to the police officers by the concerned person. Until the remaining amount is paid, the police officers have taken the national identity card of the concerned complainant into custody and have demanded an amount of 15,000 rupees to return it.
Accordingly, the police constable and the police sergeant were arrested near Mallavi police station at the time of taking the amount of 15,000 rupees.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court.
