The protest was organized this afternoon (18) and the police fired tear gas to disperse the protest.
It is said that this protest was organized in conjunction with the strike of the non-academic staff of the universities throughout the island demanding an increase in their salaries along with the salary increase for the academic staff of the university.
The Inter-University Trade Union Confederation says that if the authorities do not take steps to resolve the salary disparity issue, they will have to resort to a continuous strike.
