In our country as well as in the world, it is very common to hear of elephants roaming freely in protected forests as well as elephants living a miserable life trapped in certain places.
Although they live freely in the forests, they do not have enough food in the forests to fill their large stomachs as a result of the skills of our species.
We have heard of a wonderful program that commemorates the elephants we know, both known and unknown, who lived a miserable life in the jungles or served our species or were sometimes shot or killed by wild beasts.
Named the “WORLDWIDE VIGIL FOR ELEPHANTS”, it commemorates dead elephants around the world.
This day has been held for about 04 years. This is the 3rd time that this program has been organized in Sri Lanka. The event is scheduled to be held tomorrow (22) at the Diyatha Uyana Outdoor Theater.
However, this program commemorates the dead elephants in Sri Lanka and gives them pansakula and approves the pin.
It will also be followed by a street play about the bitter fate that befell this elephant-resource today.
Arrangements have been made to conclude the program by lighting a candle after singing a song written by scholar Amila Wijeratne about elephants.
As dead elephants,
01.Kandula and Manika who died in captivity in Sri Lanka as long as they lived
02.369 wild elephants killed in human-elephant conflict in 2021
03.Mary who died while imprisoned in a foreign zoo deported from our country

Ravana Note
While expressing our heartfelt condolences to these innocent animals who lost their lives in the face of inhumane acts considered as human beings, we also wish the authorities and the Ravana Media Network the best of luck in preventing such catastrophes in the future! Like us humans, they have the right to live their lives freely in this world.
