Due to the power outage, the Electricity Board has instructed to prepare dinner before 6 pm.
This was stated by the General Manager of the Electricity Board MR Ranatunga while joining the news on Neth FM today. He told Neth News that there could be occasional power outages for at least another five days. He points out that it is advisable to prepare his dinner before 0600 pm to avoid any inconvenience.
However, a large number of rural people prepare food using traditional methods such as firewood. In addition, kerosene stoves are now used by the urban middle class. A significant amount of gas is also used. Only urban and rural upper class people use electric stoves. Meanwhile, people in some rural houses use rice cookers.
Therefore, power cuts do not prevent more than 50% of Sri Lankans from leading a normal life. But those who have to go to work and come home to prepare food have to face severe difficulties due to this.
