The world’s first text message sold for $ 149,729.
The world’s first text message, called “Merry Christmas”, was auctioned off by an auction house called Agates, CNN reports.
That value is close to 32 million rupees in Sri Lankan currency.
The world’s first text message was sent on December 3, 1992 by Neil Papworth, a 22-year-old English software engineer using the Vodafone network.
The text message was sent to Richard Javis, a director of Vodafone. Meanwhile, the text message reached Javis’ Orbitel 901 phone.
Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to assist displaced persons.
