The South African Parliament building is on fire.
Police say one person has been arrested in connection with the blaze.
The fire, which broke out on the third floor of a parliament building in Cape Town, spread rapidly to other buildings, causing extensive damage.
Firefighters had to work hard to control the blaze, and the arrested suspect is due to appear in court.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has called the incident “a dangerous and devastating event.”
However, he has stated that the parliamentary proceedings will continue.
After looking at the destroyed building, the President has stated that “the abode of our democracy” has been destroyed.
