The 43rd Ninth Perahera of the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple in Colombo was held under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa last night (16).
This time the procession was organized under the guidance of Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thero and under the supervision of Ven. Kirinde Assaji Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Gangarama Viharaya.
Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thero, Anunayake of the Malwathu Chapter also addressed the gathering at the Pancha Seela.
The relics were placed on the inaugural elephant by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
According to the Presidential Media Unit, the President also inaugurated the newly constructed Golden Fence around the Bo tree at the Gangarama Temple and donated the land in front of the temple to the temple with a free grant.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa also presented bicycles to the ivory tuskers.
