The lamentation of our people who went to the country to earn foreign exchange was recently heard on social media through a discussion held by Mr. Chamuditha Samarawickrema.
Kamal, Shan and Chaminda, who are serving in the Middle East, raise their voices to point out a recent request from the Central Bank and point out its justifiable injustice.
The Central Bank recently issued a statement stating that the salaries of those working abroad should be legally remitted to Sri Lanka through banks.
They state that when such money is given to the country legally through banks, a large amount of money is given to the country through that money.
They say that the Undial system, as they call it, usually has a large value for the rupee when sending money to Sri Lanka, and when sending money through banks, the value is reduced by about 40-45 rupees.
They question how such a request can be made without even caring about the plight of migrant workers who have not been explored and cared for so far.
They demand that if they simply give some value to the hard work of foreign workers working in these Middle Eastern countries or listen to their demands, they are ready to earn more foreign exchange for the country.
Is it really fair to just ask for money like this without doing them any justice? They question.
They point out that even during the Kovid epidemic, the government exploited these foreign workers.
For example, during the Kovid epidemic, quarantine for foreign workers was made compulsory only in luxury hotels.They also claim that the hotel industry was enriched by exploiting the hard earned money of these innocent people.
Moreover, when a person goes abroad, they have to pay for insurance, but if the person dies abroad, they have to bring his body back and pay back the money.
They emphasized that their families had left their children and parents behind, and that some of their parents had died, and that some had been hospitalized permanently in those countries, and that these governments had made no attempt to repatriate them.
None of this would be a problem if they were not just politicians who spit on their money and try to do something for them.
