Nedungamuwe Raja Hasthiya, who carried the coffin of the main perahera festivals in Sri Lanka, including the Perahera of the Temple of the Tooth, has died this morning.
Nedungamuwe Raja, who carried the relics of the Kandy Esala Perahera, has passed away this morning.
Nedungamuwe Raja was 69 years old at the time of his death.
Born in 1953, Raja has been carrying the relics of the Sacred Tooth Relic Perahera in Kandy since 2006, being hailed as Asia’s tallest tame elephant.
Nedungamuwe Raja came to this country as a gift from India.
