Train drivers and assistants have taken immediate union action.
It is reported that the Railway Department has taken steps to cancel several trains.
The Ruhunu Kumari train which was running from Beliatta to Maradana this morning (27) had an accident while being taken by a “railway assistant” from Maradana to Dematagoda railway yard and the official residence of a train driver was also damaged.
The Railway Authority has taken steps to suspend a driver’s assistant in connection with the accident.
The locomotive driver assistants have taken a trade union action protesting against it and the trade union action lasted for almost 02 hours and during that time they have also taken steps to cancel 05 trains.
However, the Railway Authority has started investigations regarding the related accidents.
